Ohio State and Penn State Share Women’s Tennis Weekly Award

Buckeyes’ Perry and Nittany Lions’ Dorner share women’s tennis weekly award

Co-Player of the Week 
Luciana Perry, Ohio State 
So. – Export, Pa. – Major: Health Promotion, Nutrition and Exercise Science 

  • Captured the ITA Midwest Regional Championships singles title Tuesday 

  • In the tournament, Perry, the No. 2 seed who is ranked 23rd, won six straight matches, dropping just two sets combined. As a singles finalist, she also secured a berth into this fall's NCAA singles championship 

  • The championship is the first regional singles title in program history and the third regional title 

  • Perry won her Round of 64 and Round of 32 matches in straight sets and then posted a three-set win in the Round of 16. After a quarterfinal victory in two sets, Perry rallied for a three-set win in the semifinals against Michigan's No. 55-ranked Piper Charney, 3-6, 7-6 (9), 7-5. In the final, Perry defeated No. 1 seed and No. 12 ranked Julia Fliegner, 6-1, 6-1

Olivia Dorner, Penn State 
Jr. – Williamsport, Pa. – Major: Division of Undergraduate Studies  

  • Paired with Maiko Uchijima to win the doubles title at the ITA Northeast Regional 

  • The duo captured Penn State's first ITA regional title, in singles or doubles, since 2012 and became the first Nittany Lions to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships since 2013 

  • In the doubles final, Dorner and Uchijima knocked off Penn's Eileen Wang and Sabine Rutlauka, 1-6, 6-4, 10-7. - On their way to the championship match, the Penn State duo earned wins over Seton Hall’s Rachel Benoualid and Isabelle May (8-3), Fordham’s Lilianna Chitambar and Lorraine Bergmann (8-4), Princeton’s Pearlie Zhang and Isabella Chhiv (8-1) and Penn’s Gavriella Smith and Saige Roshkoff (8-0) and Esha Velaga and Lara Stojanovski (6-2, 6-3) 

  • Dorner and Uchijima are 10-1 in doubles this fall 

  • Also reached the Round of 16 in singles play with wins over Fordham’s Chitambar (6-1, 6-2) and Mercyhurst’s Kayla Dean (6-1, 3-6, 6-1)
